Farewell to Roger Vervloet, loving husband, father and grandfather.
On a beautiful fall day, October 15, 2014, and after a dogged battle with esophageal cancer, Roger left our little family, trading his familiar, beloved home circle for "eternal paradise."
Roger was a faithful husband, loving father and grandfather. He was a good-natured fellow villager, always ready for a pleasant chat or expressing a good-natured "quip" at a chance encounter.
Sports in its many varieties fascinated him tremendously. He was a good soccer player, but I have heard it said that he left training every time it was time for an episode of "Zorro" on T.V. This was tolerated by the trainer because of the fact that he was so good on the field. For more than 40 years he applied himself as a youth soccer referee.
He could articulate himself well, wrote children's stories and poems and even earned a diploma from the David's Fund at the time. Soldiers on duty he supported from the home front Rijkevorsel with his playful, humorous reports in the soldiers' magazine "Milac."
Although many years have already passed since his departure, we still miss him tremendously!
